We got the beat: Music Production Club

Music Production Club allows students to engage in a variety of creative projects.

Did you know there is a new club at ARHS focused on music production? Music teacher Todd Fruth is the advisor and senior Ben Feeney is the founder and president. According to Fruth, Music Production is a “student-led initiative that meets during Flex Blocks in room 303 on Tuesdays and will grow to meet after school as well.

Students use Ableton, a Digital Audio Workstation used in live performance settings, to produce their music, and “several students are passionate” about the program, said Fruth. They are a “small but mighty” group of members who show up regularly; however, they’re always looking for new members and are welcoming anyone who’s interested.

One goal is for the club to eventually take a field trip to Northfire Recording Studios. Although plans didn’t work out last year, they have a PGO grant and they plan to fundraise by doing bake sales to make sure it happens this year.

“There is nothing like working hands-on,” said Fruth.

Although the field trip is a big goal of theirs, that’s not the only thing they do. Members of the Music Production Club work on personal projects and get feedback, learn different music-making techniques, and do other things like beat-making competitions, all depending on the day.

Although Fruth advises it, he describes it as a “student-led club” and said Feeney “helps plan what’ll happen each meeting.”

Their goal is to keep meeting, support students with their projects, and keep having fun. “It’s a club where you can make whatever you want and it’s a space that provides all the tools you’ll need,” Feeney said.
