It’s prom time!

The ARHS prom will take place on June 4 at the Log Cabin in Holyoke, Mass.

The ARHS senior prom is an annual event that takes place in May or June, but it does not happen without a lot of planning and hard work from the senior class advisor Wilnelia Melendez, who is also the administrative assistant to the Dean of Students and the attendance coordinator at ARHS.

This year’s prom will take place at the Log Cabin in Holyoke on June 4, starting at 6 p.m and going until 10 p.m. Seniors can bring one guest.

Tickets cost $40 for seniors, $55 for guests. Reduced lunch tickets were $30 and free lunch tickets were $20. The money collected will pay for music, the event space, and food.

The event will include “buffet-style” catering with six different stations, according to Melendez.

When they arrive, students and their guests “must submit to a non-invasive alcohol screening,” she said.

The dress is formal. Senior Aixa Crux chose a long dress. Aixa Cruz mentioned that she will follow her zodiac sign for the color and vibe. “Stay calm and count some stars” is her hope for prom.

Another senior, Jane Scanlan-Emigh, mentioned that her dress is from a 1920s thrift store and it’s dark blue. She is going with a friend and is “excited about it.”

Charlie May, also a senior, will wear a black suit. “I’m not super excited about it yet, but maybe I’ll switch my mind when I am there,” he said.

I know my own four years of high school were difficult and the going was sometimes tough. But I am happy that I am graduating and look forward to celebrating it with my senior class at prom!
