May talks love of baseball

Senior Charles May, captain of the baseball team, developed his love for baseball when his father Tom May showed him the game at four years old. May fell in love and has been playing baseball for 11 years.

“This season has been a tough season,” said May. “Last year’s record was 13-7; this year is 4-9 so far.”

The team consists of May, freshman Matt Vassallo and Caleb Sexton; sophomores Nate Ziomek and Thatcher Rudnik; juniors Neil Cunniffe, Spencer Waite, Elijah Rubinstein, Aryeh Rubinstein, and Matt Hockman; and seniors Ian Waite and Dan Susse.

The captains Cuniffe, Waite, and May provide a leadership role when coaches are not around.

A typical practice will consist of stretching, infield, outfield, and live hitting. “Practices are relaxing and enjoyable,” said May.  “Our coach Jeff Gladu is a very hands-on coach.”

May said Gladu gives him “confidence during games.”

May’s goals this season are to finish the season with an ERN of 2.5 and a hitting batting average of 300. He plans to achieve these goals by giving 100 percent in everything he does.

The highlight of May’s season so far was “hitting a triple.” After high school, he would like to join a college club baseball team.
